Born to Fit
The Back Story
Back in June, Joe and I were contacted by a company called Brand About Town. They had found our blog and were interested in choosing us to be “Brand Enthusiasts” for the Gap. I met with Justine from Brand About Town for coffee and learned more about becoming one of their “uniquely qualified word of mouth advocates.” I was so flattered that they had considered Joe and I for such a wonderful endeavor! Soon after our meeting I learned that we indeed had been chosen, and they were going to throw us a party to celebrate and share Gap’s new line of Born to Fit jeans. For the first time in several decades, the Gap has totally changes the way they make their jeans, and we got a sneak peak before they hit the stores!
Born to Fit Jeans
Last week we received the package of all the jeans and a bunch of goodies. One of the items in our package was a recorded video from the Senior Director of Technical Design at the Gap. In the video she says that they’ve been “living and breathing denim for the past year at Gap,” and that they’ve “completely revolutionized the way that we engineer and build denim.” Here’s a few stills from the video where she explains the new styles and how they’ve changed.

We received 3 new styles of women’s jeans: Real Straight, Always Skinny*, and Sexy Boot.

We received 2 new styles of men’s jeans: Authentic*, and Standard.

(*the jeans we got in these 2 styles were not distressed as they appeared in these promo images)
The Party: Our Set Up
Our party was last night and we shared the new jeans with about 25 guests. We set up 3 areas throughout our apartment: the food & drinks room, the jeans room, and the dressing room. Starting with the food room:

We had a spread of bread + dips, fruit, antipasto platter, and 2 kinds of popcorn from the Pittsburgh Popcorn Company. I also made some strawberry mint lemonade and spiked key lime lemonade.
The centerpiece of the food room, though, had to be….
The Prantl’s Cake

Look at this masterpiece! The folks at Prantl‘s were amazingly generous in donating this cake for our party. It was a wonderful centerpiece to have at the party, and it really did look like denim! I cannot thank Prantl’s enough for this beautiful cake – everyone loved it!

But as beautiful as it was, everyone was anxious to dig in! I was happy to make the first cut…

It was delicious! If you live in Pittsburgh you must visit Prantl’s on Walnut St. in Shadyside. They’re famous for their Burnt Almond Torte (to die for), but they have an amazingly assortment of goodies. Stop on by, and tell them we sent you.

The Jeans Room
Here you can see our set up. From left to right: We had the video that I mentioned above on loop on my computer, a video camera set up for people to do video confessionals (more on that below), and a bed full of men’s jeans, and women’s jeans.
This room got pretty packed with people picking jeans and filming confessionals!
The Dressing Room
In our hallway we set up a makeshift dressing room, which actually turned out pretty well! Joe demonstrates:

And I made sure everything was clearly labeled.

The Party: Our Guests
Although the jeans were the stars of the evening, we had a great mix of guests who made the party really enjoyable and entertaining. To introduce them to you, I’ll share these Polaroids I took. I like to snap a Polaroid of everyone who visits our apartment, and then post them on our fridge. I didn’t get everyone, but I got most. Check ‘em out:

And a few more regular shots…

The Raffle
Included in our package of goodies were two $50 gift cards to the Gap, which we decided to raffle off to our guests. After everyone tried on a pair of jeans, we gave them a ticket to fill out. Towards the end of the night We drew 2 names…

I was happy that I choose a gal…

And then a guy!

The Swag
In addition to the jeans, we were sent lots of great goodies which we were happy to share with our guests.

A camera! To document the party.

A snack bowl, to fill with m & m’s and popcorn.

Tote bags! For everyone to take their new jeans home in.
And coupons, who doesn’t love coupons?

And lastly…
The Video
As I mentioned above I had a camera set up so people could model and share their thoughts on then new jeans. Check out what our guests had to say:
Thank You
To reiterate what we said in the end of the video… THANK YOU to the Gap, and THANK YOU to Brand About Town for the amazing opportunity to try these jeans and throw such a great party. We feel so honored to have been chosen to be advocates for such a wonderful product!
