2009 Farm to Table Conference: Photo Recap

April 4, 2009

After attending the first day of the 2009 Farm to Table Conference, we have so much wonderful information to share with you! There were great lectures, demonstrations, and resources. Joe is working on a formal editorial-type piece on the entire conference, and we’ll be sharing that with you all tomorrow after we’ve had a chance to attend the second day and really soak it all in. For now – pictures from day 1.

Here we are…. :)

Between lectures and demonstrations we walked around the many booths, chatting with local, regional, and national vendors.

For lunch we enjoyed some sandwiches provided by one of Pittsburgh’s new grocery stores: Right By Nature. They’re brand new and located in the Strip District. We’ve only visited once, but we definitely plan to go back soon! Joe got a flank steak sandwich:

And some cole slaw…

And I got a delicious mushroom pie…

After the day’s events, we headed to the evening tasting. There were lots of wonderful things to try. We have the same reaction for most everything: delicious, delicious, delicious. :) Most of the food came from local farms and businesses throughout Pennsylvania.

Grass Fed Beef from Horizon View Farms.

Fresh garlic from Pure Earth Organic Farm.

img_2374A variety of goat cheeses from Firefly Farms.

Potato Vodka from Boyd & Blair, Pennsylvania Pure Distillery.

Amazing breads from Mediterra Bakehouse. This table stopped me in my tracks! Certified bread lover. :)

img_2378

Gluten-free baked goods from Lori Bakes.

img_2379Delicious cinnamon scones and cornbread from Frankferd Farms Foods.

Micro-green salad with eggs and bruschetta from Giant Eagle Market District.

Bread and bruschetta spread from Mancini’s Bakery.

img_2388Hand Rubbed Beef Brisket by Logan Family Farms.

Assorted wines by Windgate Winery.

Lavendar Abbey Ale from North Country Brewing Company.

And I think that’s about everything! It got pretty hoppin’…

The tasting was held in a wonderful area of the convention center… giving us a beautiful view of the city. Too bad it was a dark, dreary rainy day.

Love those Pittsburgh bridges. :) If you look close you can see PNC Park looming in the background… opening day is on Monday April 13th!!

I think that about sums up our first day at the conference. Like I said, a more informal editorial will come. We’re getting ready now to head out the door and enjoy day 2! It looks like there are some great lectures lined up, so we’re excited. Stay tuned, more to come tomorrow!

A big thank you to Foodbuzz for sponsoring our attendance.

Mancini’s!!! I used to go there at the latest hours of the night (or earliest of the morning) to get those “sticks” of bread. Gosh, I miss Pittsburgh.

Can’t wait to hear more about what you learned :
